The Professional Freelance Writer Job Description

There seems to be a lot of issues and opinions about the actual job description of a freelance writer. While I have not personally experienced this from a professional aspect, I have heard enough about it from my clients to make it a point well worth addressing here.
Obviously, the first job of a professional freelance writer is to provide professional writing services and quality online content for whatever purpose the client intends. That part should be understood but it bears at least a footnote. Sometimes the purpose of a freelance writer will be to provide quality online content for web sites, article sites or other online uses. Sometimes the freelance writer will be hired to write an e-book or even a print publication.

WAAA!As a Professional Writer and something of a purist, there are certain things that just stick out whenever I read anything.
When you own a car, you probably already know all of the little problems that your vehicle has and you have learned to deal with them and have gotten used to them.
Chances are better than not that you do not even consider them at all but have grown so accustomed to the issues that it has become natural for you to not have any concern at all about such minor details.
However, when you go to purchase a car or sell a car, all of those little things suddenly begin to take on a much larger role.

Okay, as a professional freelancer and a professional writer and a regular user of Rentacoder, I may be a little bit prejudiced in my opinion here but that is only because I have never really had a bad experience on rentacoder and it seems to be a great transitional freelance site going from the dregs and on your trek to the top of the freelance writer’s food chain.

Getafreelancer.com is by far one of the most popular freelance sites online today. There are some very good deals to be had there for the Service Buyer. For the service provider, the professional writer in my case, there are numerous jobs so that there is almost always an opportunity to earn some money. However, this will also depend on the professional writer, how much they charge and what they expect to earn.
Average article rates for the “standard” five hundred word articles are about one to one and one half dollar each on this freelance site. While that is certainly not always the case, it is pretty much the standard rate on this particular lance site. There are some great jobs occasionally but you will have to dig and search for them in order to find them.
Writing On Spec

Many professional writers want to have a solid and viable market before they even consider putting the pen to the paper, much less actually creating a literary masterpiece. A lot of other writers however, are not quite so particular. I am a professional writer and sometimes I write work for hire or writing canned copy and sometimes I just write. So how do I get paid just to write?
Many of these professional writers will work on “spec” or speculation.
While both arenas have their good points and bad points, we will look strictly at writing on “spec” in this article.
It is called writing on speculation for a reason.
