If you are at all familiar with the term “fad” you may be able to see right away what would be wrong with fad diets. If you are not familiar with the term, in American terms, it is generally viewed as a passing craze. In British terms, it means to be overly fussy, particularly when it comes to what a person will or will not consume. Both of these definitions have negative connotations and that is not entirely without reason. When you are beginning your personal weight loss challenge, are you going to want the negative aspects or the positive aspects on your side? To better understand this, first take a look at exactly what the negative connotations are in association with fad diets.

The term “Craze” has the same roots as the word crazy. If you have ever met someone who was truly “crazed” you may know just how bad this will appear to the average person. A craze, by its very nature does not last for long either. If you are attempting to lose weight, the chances are better than not that you want to lose those excess pounds and keep them off. The chances also are that if you are using the latest fad diets, that you will lose that weight and quickly gain it back unless you continually diet. Neither of those are very viable options for someone who is serious about weight loss.

Using the British context of the word, it is not as overtly bad but it still does have negative connotations and not without reason either. While many people may argue this fact, the British are generally much more reserved and refined than most “common people”. Thus, it is with a great sense of disdain that they should have to look down on anyone, much less actually have to sit down to a meal with someone that they disapproved of. However, this is neither an attack or a defense of the British people, so save that for another occasion please. Still, if someone who is naturally picky and very selective, says that someone else is being overly picky or selective … do you think that could in any sense of the word, be a good thing?

Apart from that, all of the “fad diets” are commercial by their very nature. There

is not one fad diet that allows you the option of fully customizing the diet plan to fit your personal needs, nutritional or otherwise. If you owned a Rolls Royce, would you want to take it to “Bubba's Junkyard” to have it repaired … I mean … he is after all, still a mechanic and it is still a car right?

The fact of the matter is that when you have a nice car, you take it to a mechanic who knows that car and how to work on it. Your body is … or at least should be … substantially more important to you than your car. Who is there that knows your body better than you do? You do not need to get crazy in order to lose weight, you just have to figure out what works for you and from there, you can easily attain all of your personal weight loss goals.
